On 17 November 2016, a Quick Impact Project (QIP) on Improving Community Livelihood through Small Scale Water Supply and Integrated Food Security for the community living inside Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary, Pursat Province of Cambodia and nearby areas, was launched by Embassy of India, Phnom Penh along with Ministry of Environment, Kingdom of Cambodia.  This project is part of Mekong Ganga Cooperation Initiative and grant assistance of US$50,000 has been sanctioned by Government of India.

The project was jointly launched by H.E. So Khanrithykun, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment, H.E. Khieu Borin, Director General, General Directorate of Local Community (GDLC), Ministry of Environment and Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Second Secretary, Embassy of India. A workshop was also organized to present the project objectives, implementation and activity plans and roles and responsibilities and other mechanisms. Representatives from various departments of Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Rural Development, Provincial Department of Environment in Pursat, Wildlife Sanctuary and beneficiary community participated in the launch of the project.

Total 190 households (1050 persons) will directly benefit from the project.  These include vulnerable and marginalized households living in Community Protected Areas (CPAs).  The project will improve access to safe drinking water, provide water for domestic use, reduce time/workload in water collection, prevent water-borne disease, improve health and result in generation of income for livelihood.
