Webinar on the launch of Sanskrit App “Little Guru” and

ICCR Scholarships for 2021-22

The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh, in association with Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, organized a Webinar to propagate information on various scholarships offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to Cambodian nationals for 2021-2022.  The Webinar was attended by over 70 officials from various Ministries / institutes, lecturers / teacher, rectors, students.

Ambassador Devyani Khobragade, while inaugurating the Webinar, stressed upon the strong cultural, religious ties between India and Cambodia and stated that this relationship is to be carried forward through academic and economic connections as well.  She said that in the past 10-15 years, many Cambodians had obtained their higher education in India.  After returning back to their homeland, they have utilized their expertise in improving the life of common Cambodian, and contributed to the Cambodian government and private sector efficiency.

The Webinar was also addressed by H.E. Prof. Chhem Kieth Rethy, Minister Delegate attached to Prime Minister, and Secretary of State, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation; H.E. Mak Ngoy, Director General, Higher Educational Directorate; and Venerable Dr. Kou Sopheap, Lecturer in Pannasastra University, Phnom Penh. 

Mr. Sanjay Vedi, Senior Programme Director, ICCR, gave the main presentation on the ICCR scholarships, mentioning about types of scholarships, admission process, facilities provided to candidates, etc.  The presentation was followed by a robust Q&A session in which prospective candidates asked several questions.

For the year 2021-2022, the last date for submitting the applications has been extended to 30 May 2021.  The courses offered for studies are for under-graduation, post-graduation and M. Phil /PhD levels at various Central/States University, Institutes, National Institutes of Technology, and Agricultural Institutions etc.  To streamline and make the scholarship awards transparent, ICCR has digitized the admission process through an admission portal (www.a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in).  The portal contains all relevant information regarding ICCR sponsored scholarship schemes and other information like name of the Indian universities, courses offered by them and guideline of scholarship schemes etc.  For any queries with regard to the application process, scholars are invited to write to the Embassy (itec.phnompenh@mea.gov.in) and to the Programme Director of Scholarships (Mr. Malkit Chand, email: dircul.iccr@gov.in).

During the Webinar, the Embassy of India also launched a Sanskrit learning APP “Little Guru” which ICCR has developed in coordination with a private institute.  This is world’s first Gamified Sanskrit learning APP, which has used gaming techniques, AI and advanced user interface, making it easy and fun to learn Sanskrit.  For interested institutions / teachers / students  ICCR can even consider making the subscription free.  Those interested may contact Embassy of India (hoc.phnompenh@mea.gov.in and itec.phnompenh@mea.gov.in) for the same.  More information on the application can be seen on https://embindpp.gov.in.
