SANSKRIT DAY CELEBRATION

Embassy of India, Phnom Penh celebrated Sanskrit Day on 16th August, 2018 in the presence of Sanskrit scholars and linguists. Venerable Dhammaghoshacharya Dr. Khy Sovanaratana, Acting Rector of Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University enlightened the audience with the thorough knowledge of Sanskrit including its expansion in Southeast Asia and importance as a language from which many languages of the world including Cambodian Khmer language have originated.  He gave a detailed account of the ancient Indian and foreign literature written in Sanskrit.  He explained similarities in local Khmer and Sanskrit language. Ambassador shared her views on Sanskrit and emphasized that this is the most scientific language in the world.  The fact that Vedas are the oldest literature of the world and written in Sanskrit is the evidence that Sanskrit undoubtedly is the oldest language of the world.  She explained in detail the characteristics of Sanskrit language.  Attendees enthusiastically participated in the debate and shared their views on Sanskrit and its role.
