MoU Exchange Ceremony of Quick Impact Project between Ambassador and Minister of Women's Affairs

    On 07 February 2024, a MOU exchange ceremony was held between H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of the Republic of India, and H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Honourable Minister of Women’s Affairs, for Construction of a three-classroom buildings at Sngoun Pich Primary School under the grant from Government of India. The project aims at improving the quality and learning environment for pupils from grade 1 to grade 6 at Sngoun Pich Primary School with estimated cost around USD 50,000. 

   This initiative is under Government of India’s Quick Impact Project (QIP) under the framework of the Mekong Ganga Cooperation. Under the Quick Impact Project Scheme, the Government of India implements 10 projects every year in Cambodia by providing a funding of up to USD 50,000/- each per project. Since 2015-16, the Government of India has approved 51 projects in the fields of IT, agriculture, health, sanitation, women’s empowerment, child welfare, rural development, social infrastructue (including capacity building), environment, etc. Out of 51 projects, 38 projects have already been completed and the remaining 13 projects are at various stages of execution. These projects have received an enthusiastic response and created a distinct and visible impact among the beneficiaries.

   While addressing the event, attended by the Officials of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Embassy of India, Ambassador H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade conveyed her felicitations to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs for the initiative, that will help people of Phnom Penh especially girl children. Ambassador said India believes in the philosophy “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which mean- the world is one family. This is an all-embracing outlook that encourages us to progress as one universal family, and calls for human-centric development. India is committed to knowledge sharing which is a part of its ancient heritage.

   Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Honourable Minister of Women’s Affairs thanked the Government of India for providing grant for building a school, which will benefit students and faculty. Hon’ble Minister appreciated the cooperation with the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh, under which 06 similar projects were executed for school sanitation, IT proficiency & class room buildings. Hon’ble Minister said that the shared aspiration and commitment, the existing cordial relations and fruitful cooperation between India and Cambodia will continue to grow stronger and stronger for years to come.
